Recording Artist Kenny Kohlhaas
Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art.
- Charlie Parker
Kenny Kohlhaas has been singing, playing guitar and writing music since he was twelve years old, and playing in bands since he was fourteen. He grew up on classic and alternative rock, and devoted his artistic studies from a young age to those bands and artists who have maintained a timeless presence in the world of music, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and Michael Jackson. He also studied the rock, blues, and jazz guitar playing styles of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, George Harrison, Larry Carlton and George Benson to name a few. He got more deeply into the language of Jazz in college, and studied the bebop vocabulary of jazz greats such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, and many more, along with the harmonic ideas of Bill Evans, Duke Ellington, Joe Pass and Steely Dan.
With his understanding of jazz, blues and rock, and his facility on the guitar, he became one of the top working guitarists in the DC Metropolitan music scene. After extensive work as a session guitarist in the Washington DC area for several local and national acts, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from George Mason University with an honorary award for "Outstanding Contribution to the Music Department", and touring all over the world as guitarist for BeBe and CeCe Winans, he is coming back full circle to his roots as a singer, a songwriter, a bandleader and a recording artist, and releasing his debut solo full length album, with a band featuring some of the finest musicians in the Washington DC area. Kenny's album will be released on February 1, 2013.
